Garbage Disposer

There are two basic types of disposers. The first and most common type is the continuous feed. The unit is turned on with a wall switch and allows continuous feeding of garbage into the unit.  The second type is a batch feed.  This unit has a built in magnetic switch in the stopper that turns the disposer on.  The stopper must be in place to run the unit so it will grind a batch at a time.  When grinding food the user should always run cold water continuously.  If a unit will not switch on, always check the reset button located on the bottom of the unit.  If odors develop, the unit can be cleaned by placing ice cubes in it and then switching the unit on to grind the ice.  We recommend not putting grease, pasta or rice into the garbage disposer due to their ability to cling onto the piping or swell with additional water.
