Plumbing Tips for the Summer

Summer is here. You’ll likely spend more time outside, take a fun family vacation, or just a quick trip to the beach. But before you begin to do the things you want to do, spend a little time following these plumbing tips so you can enjoy everything you want to this summer.

  • Inspect your washing machine. Summertime typically means you’ll find yourself doing more laundry than usual. Is the washing machine hose flexible? Is the faucet connection secure (with no leaks)? Take care to make sure your machine is working the way it should and give us a call is you find any issues you’re not sure how to resolve.
  • Be careful what you put down the garbage disposal. We recommend running your water at full pressure for about 15 seconds before putting anything down the garbage disposal. And be sure to avoid putting grease, cooking oil, any fibrous foods (such as celery, asparagus, potatoes, etc.), coffee grounds, rice, or pasta down the drain. As a rule of thumb, scrape your plates before anything goes down the drain!
  • Check your sprinkler heads. Whether you do it yourself or call an irrigation professional to help, check your sprinkler heads to make sure they’re working correctly and aren’t leaking. It may be an excellent time to clean your sprinkler heads as well.
  • Inspect your home for water leaks. Look for leaks in any pipes or drains around each sink in your home and the water heater. Check the walls and floors for any damp spots. If you’re not sure where to look, or you’ve found something you’d like to fix, give us a call. We’ll help you out as soon as possible.
  • Turn down your water heater. Most people don’t realize they can turn down the water heater during the summer months – especially when they go on vacation.

We recommend scheduling your regular annual plumbing maintenance check-up before the summer kicks into high gear. Give us a call at 770-451-6765 to get started.
